Wedding morning timings: From your bridal hair and makeup stylists.

Hey there! Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of a wedding morning from a bridal hair and makeup artist's perspective? Now every wedding morning is different and your stylists will discuss rough timings on the day of your trial. Lots of factors come into play when creating your schedule; what time the ceremony is, how many are having hair and makeup done, are you getting ready at the venue, the list goes on… That is why we provide you with a schedule in the lead up to the big day to add some structure to the morning, avoiding any delays as well as direction for your stylists and bridal party!

Arrival and set up

We will always arrive around 15 minutes before the start time on the schedule to find you and set up our kits and give you a ‘Happy wedding day!’ hug! To make this as seamless as possible we ask that space has been cleared so we can start straight away. Makeup artists will always try and be near as much natural light as possible, if there is a table nearby great! Hair stylists will want to be near a plug, have a low back chair and somewhere to put all of their kit.

When in the chair

For most of your bridal party we will allocate around 45 minutes per person per service. Now, if they have mermaid hair down to their lower back, this may take a little longer. So, please be sure to tell your bridal hair stylist the length and styles they want before the big day. Often, if you have booked Margot + Lace for both hair and makeup, it is likely we will alternate and we have worked together many times so we know roughly how long each stylist takes.

For the brides hair and makeup we will allocate one hour per service just to spend that little bit longer on skin and hair prep and giving you a real chance to sit, relax and take in the morning.

Retouches

Some bridal prep starts at 6am which means whoever goes first might be fretting that it won’t last. We will be with you right until you walk down the aisle, so we are there for retouches of hair and makeup. We will schedule for retouches to be one hour before your ceremony. I know what you are thinking, ‘that is ages away from when we leave’! When we say the last hour of your wedding morning is redundant, it simply doesn’t exist! There is always the last minute chaos, getting into dresses, making sure the boob tape is in the right place and of course you need to meet the registrars 15 minutes before your ceremony. This is not factoring in if you need to travel to the venue! It is nice to have that little bit of extra time to do any reveals, photos and one last minute toilet break!

Final thoughts: Being part of a bride's journey on her wedding morning is an absolute privilege. We create a schedule to make sure the day runs as smoothly as possible to make sure you can truly enjoy the getting ready part. Whether we are working as a Margot + Lace team or you have a separate hair or makeup artist, feel free to send our schedule onto them and we will work collaboratively!
